ASSESSING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIGITAL INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING OF WOODWORK IN KANO STATE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

This study evaluated the effectiveness of digital instructional technologies in the teaching and
learning of Woodwork Technology within tertiary institutions in Kano State.. The study was
guided by three objectives, three research questions, and three null hypotheses. A descriptive
survey design was employed, involving a population of 25 respondents comprising 15 lecturers
and 10 technologists from Kano State Polytechnic and the Federal College of Education
(Technical), Bichi. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, and the data were
analysed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test statistics with SPSS version 25. Findings
revealed that digital instructional technologies are effective in enhancing student engagement,
improving understanding of complex concepts, increasing efficiency, and preparing students for
modern industry requirements. However, challenges, including limited digital literacy,
insufficient infrastructure, inadequate institutional support, and recurring technical problems,
impede their effective integration. The study concludes that while digital technologies
significantly improve the teaching and learning of woodwork technology, adequate training for
lecturers, provision of digital facilities, and strong institutional support are critical for their
successful implementation. It is recommended that tertiary institutions invest in digital
infrastructure, provide continuous training for lecturers and technologists, and ensure
sustainable institutional support. This will equip students with the necessary 21st-century skills
for gainful employment and national development.
